Garic creates container clinic for the RSPCA

Garic recently completed one of its most unusual jobs when it came to the rescue of the RSPCA by donating a temporary shelter.

The highly respected animal charity had outgrown its existing site and was struggling to find suitable interim premises when Barrie Ashcroft, one of its committee members, came up with a great solution.

Barrie, who is also a site services manager at Garic, asked the big-hearted company to lend a 24 x 9 container to the Bolton branch of the RSPCA to use as a waiting and consultation room while the organisation’s new premises were being prepared.

Barrie said: “I work with storage containers and modular buildings every day at Garic and know just how practical and flexible they can be. I thought one of our larger containers could easily be adapted to provide the temporary treatment space needed – I was over the moon when I got the thumbs up.”

The unit was adapted so that it could be used as a clinic to treat up to 30 cats, dogs and hamsters every day. It was divided into sections to ensure the different animals had their own waiting areas and included a fully equipped treatment room as well as a refrigerated area for storing medication.

Barrie added: “The work the clinic does is so important as it provides vital healthcare for people who cannot afford to take their animals to the vets. Many of the visitors who come to the facility are elderly or live alone and these pets provide essential companionship.”

The Bolton branch’s new facility which is now all finished and ready for action, was officially opened by RSPCA CEO Jeremy Cooper this week who thanked everyone involved for their support and gave Garic a special mention.
