Fuel Friday – A Green Alternative

In this week’s instalment of Fuel Friday, we take a look at HVO facts, the environmental benefits, and how our fleet is fully compatible.

What is HVO?

HVO is a biofuel used as an alternative to diesel and stands for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil and is exactly that. Vegetable oils and food waste are treated with hydrogen at high temperatures to produce the fuel. HVO has been around for over 10 years with several variants now on the market.

Can HVO be mixed?

HVO can be added to a tank that already has red/white diesel during the switch over period, however, it would be good practice to try and run down any red diesel supply before this date. If you still have red diesel in the vehicle or appliance on, or after 1st April and are adding HVO to it, the government advises to keep evidence in case of a spot check from HMRC, see further details here.

The environmental impact

HVO has strong environmental credentials to support you in reducing your scope 1 emissions. In tests, HVO has been found to reduce emissions by up to 90% compared to diesel. This would be a great solution for our customers who are looking at reducing their carbon footprint.

Our current fleet

We have conducted rigorous testing throughout our whole fleet to confirm that our existing fleet are compatible with HVO fuel; giving you more options to operate sustainably. Additionally, all our new products, which are due to launch later this year, will also be HVO compliant as standard.
