Cosmetics to Construction – Victoria Westwood shares her career insights at Scotbuild
Garic’s Scottish Regional Account Manager Victoria Westwood is to be an ambassador at Scotbuild’s Women in Construction Networking event on 21st March.
The event, which takes place in the Built Environment Networking Hub at the SEC Glasgow, is set to be the largest gathering of women working in construction in Scotland. It will provide a forum for examining the untapped opportunities for women working in the sector.
Commenting on her role Victoria said: “I am really pleased to be able to get more involved with encouraging greater diversity and equality. It is so important to get behind promoting opportunities for women in the build environment so that more become interested and that those already in the sector are encouraged to reach higher.
“Scotbuild attracts thousands of visitors and is therefore a fantastic opportunity to spread the word. We need to break down the typical gender stereotype about what a construction worker should be and improve confidence in the abilities of women. Construction should no longer be seen as a ‘man’s world’, it should be an open door to everyone.
“There are so many different roles under the construction banner and so many rewarding possibilities for women. I’ve worked in the sector for the past 8 years, initially in training but now in sales. I love my role as a regional manager supplying welfare facilities and plant to companies involved in all types of construction, infrastructure, rail and energy projects. I feel my career is far more rewarding than it was previously – I moved from cosmetics to construction and much prefer where I am now!”
Scotbuild is 20th – 21st March at the SEC Glasgow, Exhibition Way, Glasgow G3 8YW. The Women In Construction Networking event is on the 21st from 10.00am – 12.30pm. There will be a panel discussion from 10.00am – 11.15am followed by an opportunity to network and meet Victoria and the team of ambassadors.
