The Project

M&J Evans typically require a 4 cabin site setup utilising a 40kva generator for the early stages of their construction projects. This set up will generally use 300 litres of diesel per week. They sought Garic’s advice on providing an alternative solution that would provide high levels of financial and environmental value to the project, whilst powering a canteen, office, drying room and 2+1 toilet.

The Solution

Solar Energy Store 20 is a fully automated 24/7 off-grid power supply that seamlessly integrates renewable energy and storage, coupled with a diesel/HVO-powered backup generator. This is all geared towards reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

It works using solar panels to harness the sun’s energy, which is then stored in the built-in battery pack. The standby generator kicks in only when needed— whether the batteries are depleted or when there’s a high AC/actual current load—ensuring efficient and uninterrupted power supply.

This Solar Energy Store 20 is engineered to provide power for up to three open-plan cabins, toilet blocks, or similar configurations.

“M & J Evans recognises the scale of the challenge in reducing our environmental impact in a carbon intensive industry. M & J has established a carbon reduction strategy focussed on meeting objectives set through its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative

As a partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School M & J appreciate the importance of collaborating with our clients and our supply chain to assist in meeting our targets.

Working closely with Garic we have been able to identify the benefits provided by using solar – hybrid charging for powering site accommodation. We have trialled units on two of our projects and have found cost savings combined with a significant reduction in carbon usage and emissions.

M & J will continue exploring the capability of new technologies as we focus on reducing our carbon footprint on the journey to net zero.”
